Election 2024

Due to the changes made by the Boundary Commision; Normanton, but not Altofts, is now in a new constituency. So we are no longer with Wakefield, nor are we back again with Pontefract.

Welcome to the new constituency of Normanton and Hemsworth.

So rather than the familiar suspects canvassing for our votes, we have a new line up.

Candidates
  • Callum Bushrod, Reform UK

  • Craig Dobson, Liberal Democrats

  • Alice Hopkin, Conservative

  • Ashton Howick, Green

  • Jon Trickett, Labour

So, Churches Together in Normanton & Altofts at our last meeting decided to take the initiative. In order to get to know something about the person who will represent Normanton (and those members of the churches in Altofts that live in Normanton) for the next five years, we ran a kind of Hustings (a bit like Question Time). Given the short amount of time to organise this, we came to the conclusion that we would do it by correspondence. So we have asked all the candidates the same 5 questions, including one which asks them to tell us something surprising about themselves. Their answers, or lack of them, are below.

Process

We contacted all of the candidates through their official email addresses provided by Gov.uk. We set a deadline and gave them a week to answer the questions, and then sent out a reminder and gave them a further 24 hrs. The candidates for the three main parties all responded, the Green and Reform candidates declined to reply. So we give you the complete responses from the three participating candidates. We did ask them to confine their answers to one short paragraph for each question, you will see that it proved an impossible demand for a politician!

Below is a full list of candidates - click on the link to see their responses to the same set of questions.

(Candidates have been listed in alphabetical order of surname. Pictures have been taken from whocanivotefor.com).
